Perry Mason est un brillant avocat californien.

Célibataire d'âge mûr, Perry Mason a les épaules larges, une stature qui semble imposante, un visage sévère et un regard qui traduit son calme et sa force de caractère.

Ne traitant que les affaires criminelles, défenseur des plus faibles, Perry Mason n'accepte de défendre un client que s'il est convaincu de son innocence, et ce quelle que soit sa situation sociale. Il est aidé dans son entreprise par sa secrétaire, Della Street, et par un détective privé, Paul Drake, qu'il charge d'enquêter sur le terrain.

Toute affaire se termine inévitablement au tribunal par une plaidoirie durant laquelle Perry Mason tente de disculper son client.
