Solar Pons est un enquêteur privé résidant à Londres.

Né en 1880 à Prague, Solar Pons est le fils d'Asenath Pons et de Roberta McIvor Pons, et a pour frère, Bancroft, qui travaille au Foreign Office.

Célibataire, Solar Pons habite, en compagnie de son ami, le docteur Lyndon Parker, au 7B, Praed Street (dont la logeuse est Mrs Johnson.) Il y reçoit ses clients, durant l'entre-deux-guerres, en tant que détective conseil.

Les affaires qu'il est amené à résoudre, grace à son sens de l'observation et de la déduction, sont souvent insolites, et parfois à la limite du surnaturel.

Il peut alors se faire aider par une bande d'enfants des rues, les Irréguliers de Praed Street, dirigée par Alfred Peake.

Et il lui est possible de croiser au cours de ses enquêtes, entre autres, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, Thomas Carnaki, Hercule Poirot ou Fu Manchu.

Solar Pons, qui voit en Sherlock Holmes son maître, et le docteur Parker, qui est le chroniqueur de ses aventures, sont membres du célèbre Diogenes Club.
